Day three of Fringe brought me four exceptional productions! I bumped into some friends both from my university days as well as some new friends I’ve met in the theatre scene here in Toronto. It’s great to have folks to sit with and enjoy the Fringe together.

Once again this year, I’ve been asked to help Intermission Magazine cover the Fringe Festival. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to write for them. To read my reviews for Intermission, as well as some other very talented writers, check out their X page, as well as their website:

Three friends who haven’t seen each other in a while rent out a creepy looking cabin in the woods for a girl’s weekend, nothing could go wrong…right? Cassie Davidson’s hilarious horror/comedy Girl’s Night Cabin Fever gleefully plays into several horror film stereotypes and then ultimately subverts them all. Girl’s Night Cabin Fever will get your heart racing and also make your cheeks hurt from laughing!

Liz, Charlie, and Ember love their girls weekends together, and this year it’s Ember’s turn to plan the trip. But the cabin she booked for them doesn’t exactly look like the one she saw online. Immediately upon arrival, the hijinks begin as mice skitter across the floor and it’s discovered that the facilities are a little less convenient than they’d desire. As a storm whips up and the power goes out, the girls become far more concerned for their mortal safety. But it’s a comedy, so they’ll be okay…won’t they?

The lighting for this show is great; once the power goes out, they use all manner of camping lantern, flashlight, and LEDs to light the stage. It gives a spooky atmosphere while also allowing for some hilarious gags to play out.

Davidson is joined by Lizzie Moffatt and Mackenzie Kelly as Liz, Charlie, and Ember. The three of them are a total riot and play off of each other very well. Kenny Grenier’s sweet portrayal of Evan a perfect addition to the cast, along with Allison Ehrlich’s eerie performance as Marsha.

Grab a flashlight and see Girl’s Night Cabin Fever this year. It’s a chilling and charming play you won’t want to miss.
