It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Time for hot cocoa, snuggling up in your warmest jammies, and watching those fabulously cliche holiday films. This year, Predictable Holiday Rom-Com: The Musical is bringing the vibes of those movies to the stage! George Reinblatt and Suzy Wilde have created this fabulously funny play to kick off the holiday season!

Suzy Wilde and George Reinblatt
  1. Could you please introduce yourselves to my readers?

George: I’m George Reinblatt, a comedy writer who has written for both TV and the stage. You may know me from writing the book, lyrics and music for Evil Dead the Musical, and now I’ve teamed with Suzy Wilde to create a brand new comedy Predictable Holiday Rom Com The Musical

Suzy: I’m Suzy Wilde! I co-composed the music for the show.

2. Where did you get the inspiration for Predictable Holiday Rom-Com: The Musical?

George: We just wanted to make a holiday show that was pure fun and pure comedy, and from there we thought this genre was the best vehicle to write a show that would get laughs and make you feel good.

Suzy: George had the idea!

3. Are either of you genuine fans of the cheesy holiday romance movies?

George: We’re huge fans of these movies. This whole show is a love letter to TV Christmas movies, we just added comedy and music. But rest assured, this show is for fans of holiday rom-coms, written by fans of holiday rom-coms.

Suzy: Actually, yes. I definitely am. I know a lot of people who work on these films ( my partner being one of them!), so watching them started as a supportive gesture…. and over the years it transformed into a guilty pleasure. Sitting down and watching a Hallmark or Lifetime movie is just the coziest thing. You don’t have to work too hard, you can zone out or get up to clean the kitchen and come back and you’ll still know exactly what’s going on. I know there are a ton of people who share my guilty pleasure, so when George approached me with this idea, I couldn’t resist. It was brilliant!

4. What can audiences expect from Predictable Holiday Rom-Com: The Musical?

George: We like to say the plot is predictable but the songs are extremely unpredictable. So even though the story may seem familiar we have a few surprises along the way.

Suzy: I think people will be genuinely surprised by how funny and unpredictable this show is.  Yes, the plot borrows many themes those cheesy holiday romance movies, but when the characters break into song and suddenly everything becomes SO emotionally elevated, I think audiences will really laugh at the ridiculousness of it all!

5. What’s your favourite part of the holidays?

George: It used to be watching holiday rom-coms on TV… but now my favourite part of the holidays is having people come to our musical based on holiday rom-coms. Seeing people laugh during our show is the highlight of my year.

Suzy: My 2.5 year old daughter is OBSESSED with Santa. Since August, she’s been insisting on reading The Night Before Christmas every night before bed. Her favourite song is “Here Comes Santa Clause”, and she was even Santa for Halloween this year. My favourite part of the holidays is getting to see it through the eyes of my kid…all year round!
