Here’s a brief list of some other events happening this month around the GTA and beyond! It’s a full month with lots to see and do!

Dusk Dances

Dusk Dances 2024 will showcase four site-specific dance pieces by acclaimed choreographers. From August 4-11, audiences will gather at Withrow Park in Toronto to witness an eclectic mix of contemporary, traditional, and experimental dance forms. Each evening promises to be a journey of discovery, transforming the park into a vibrant stage filled with artistry and creativity.

In a first ever collaboration of its kind, Dusk Dances is partnering with Project Soniashnyk to bring one of the pieces to life with community performers. Project Soniashnyk is a Ukrainian Canadian fund that brings summer trauma rehabilitation camps to children of Ukraine’s armed forces and fallen defenders. They are helping Dusk Dances present the work of Ukrainian artist, Yevgen Karykakin, his sister, and her two children, who will be performing a piece about their journey to Canada through the war, alongside community children performers from their studio.

But when Roberval discovers Marguerite’s passionate affair with a young officer, fury takes over. He abandons them both, along with Marguerite’s hapless nurse, on a remote island in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, ominously known as the Isle of Demons. Stranded in a land of relentless hardships, unseen dangers, and seemingly supernatural threats, the trio must fight for their survival.

Joan & Olivia: A Hollywood Ghost Story

Joan Fontaine and Olivia De Havilland were two of old Hollywood’s brightest stars and most bitter rivals. They also just happened to be sisters! This fictionalized version of the historical feud follows these real-life screen legends beyond the grave as they find themselves stuck as ghosts, doomed to haunt their childhood home in Saratoga, California. When two new young sisters move into the house, Joan and Olivia duke it out by meddling in the young sisters’ relationship, passing their feud on to a new generation.
