There’s plenty of theatre happening in the GTA, and in other provinces too! Here’s a list of a few other productions which are coming up this month.

Discovering Allan Sherman – Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company

The songs of Allan Sherman will have you rolling in the aisles as we learn about the man who was the greatest Jewish parodist of the 20th Century with songs such as Sarah Jockman, Al ‘N Yetta, Harvey and Sheila and Shake Hands with Your Uncle Max. Allan Sherman was the Larry David, the Adam Sandler, the Sacha Baron Cohen of 1963.
His meteoric rise to fame with albums such as My Son the Folk Singer and My Son the Celebrity unfortunately couldn’t allay the fears and neurosis of this plagued artist. Laugh out loud as we embrace the brilliance of this creative genius in Discovering Allan Sherman.

The Sound of Music – Nightwood Theatre’s Lawyer Show

Nightwood Theatre is proud to be returning to the stage with our fifteenth annual Lawyer Show, Rodger and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music!

Directed by Sadie Epstein-Fine, assisted by Lee Stone, and Musical Directed by Melissa Morris, assisted by Alexa Belgrave, and supported by a team of professional designers and crew, this unique event brings a cast of over 35 lawyers together for four live performances at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts. As Nightwood’s biggest annual fundraiser, the Lawyer Show delivers vital funds that go directly toward the company’s mentorship initiatives, training programs and main stage productions.

While Lawyer Shows happen across Canada in various regional theatres, Nightwood’s scale is one of the largest in the country. Over the past decade, Nightwood has engaged over 300 lawyer-actors, received hundreds of sponsorships from some of Toronto’s top law firms, and has raised over $1,300,000 to support local artists. Moreover, the engagement has led to other creative endeavours, where lawyer alumni have produced their own Fringe shows, performed stand-up comedy, and formed indie theatre companies.

Prove a Villain – Panoply Theatre Collective

PROVE A VILLAIN is a radical reimagining of Shakespeare’s Richard III, examining a queer woman’s doomed venture to succeed within the bounds of the patriarchy. By removing Shakespeare’s ableist language and themes surrounding disabilities and differently-abled bodies, Panoply has written new text to supplement Shakespeare’s canon, and this new piece tells a story of shame, womanhood, and the cyclical nature of oppression.
