Little Shop of Horrors – The Capitol Theatre

The Capitol Theatre’s summer stage series continues with the award-winning sci-fi smash hit musical  Little Shop of Horrors. The show features an all-star cast of actors and musicians, directed by the Capitol’s Artistic Director Rob Kempson. Opening night is Saturday, August 12 and the show runs through to September 3.

Don Rooke & Kevin Breit – Sellers and Newell

Joining guitar, dobro, lap-steel, and mandolin virtuosi Don Rooke and Kevin Breit will be California bassist David Piltch who has performed with Holly Cole, k d lang, Bill Frissell, Richard Thompson, Janis Ian, Aaron Neville, Alan Toussaint, Elton John, Bonnie Raitt, Don Henley, Willie Nelson, Randy Newman, Joan Baez, and also some well-known musicians.

Porch View Dances – Kaeja d’Dance

The annual event will return for its 12th year on August 9 to 13, 2023, in Toronto’s historic Seaton Village. The site-specific community dance event offers audiences and participants an extraordinary mingling of everyday lives and artistic expression through dance. Recently, the City of Toronto recognized the impact and contribution of Porch View Dances by renaming a Seaton Village laneway – Porch View Dances Lane.

Says Karen Kaeja, Co-Artistic Director of Kaeja d’Dance and Founder of Porch View Dances, “Porch View Dances takes dance out of the theatre and literally into the streets,” featuring works performed by everyday people.

The 90-minute walking/wheeling tour will be led by drag queen Mary Moonshine and feature four new works created by choreographers Victoria Mata and Irma VillafuerteHeryka MirandaAshima Suri, and Kinaj (Kin Nguien and AJ Velasco).

Comic Books Live! – The Assembly Theatre

Heroically returning after a brief hiatus, THE ASSEMBLY THEATRE’s live action comic book reading series COMIC BOOKS LIVE!!! Re-launches with a dramatic reading of PATRICK JENKINS latest graphic novel TALES FROM PHANTOM CITY!

Each installment of COMIC BOOKS LIVE!!! plucks a comic book from all eras of graphic fiction history, chosen by series host, Assembly alumni and all-around comic fanboy LUIS FERNANDES (Therac 25, The Assembly Theatre; Tough Jews, Dora Award nomination – Outstanding Ensemble) and gives it a high-energy dramatic reading by some of Toronto’s finest live performers! Audiences are encouraged to bring a copy of the graphic novel to the even to read along with the live performance. Copies will also be sold in person at the event courtesy of AT BAY PRESS!
